S8E3 Quick Recap

We knew ahead of time that the juniors would be Lan Jingyi, Ouyang Zizhen, Qin Su, and Su She. We see them enter, they do a little game where they have to guess if different facts are about each other or one of the seniors. Said seniors each have to learn a silly dance to gain entrance to the waiting room, and we discover that they are Bao Shan, Nie Huaisang, Wen Qing, and Jin Guangshan.

Yes, everyone is surprised they let Wen Qing and Wen Ning compete in the same season, but obviously they put them in different groups so they can't wind up paired. She mentions it to the other seniors in a way that sounds very nearly not at all like the producers told her to say something.

Su She goes first. He's kinda flat while singing his recent OST song. Nie Huaisang and Wen Qing take pity on him and give him hearts, Su She chooses Nie Huaisang. They sing 独一无二(Only You) by Show Lo. NHS is great as always, Su She at least wasn't flat this time but doesn't seem thrilled with the song choice. But they both say no to each other.

Ouyang Zizhen is up next. He sings 忽而今夏(Suddenly This Summer) by Wang Sulong, gets three hearts, chooses Wen Qing. They sing Penny Tai's 你要的愛(The Love You Want) and sound great together, but OYZZ says yes and WQ says no. After they do their little debrief with Lin Hai, Wen Qing goes to sit down and Lin Hai is probably about to ask NHS if he's interested in OYZZ, but instead NHS literally springs out of his seat waving his hand like a kid trying to get called on in class going "Oh! Oh!" because... he wants OYZZ so badly?? OYZZ looks more confused than anyone, but like, he's also not stupid enough to insult NHS (or to turn down the opportunity to work with him), so he says yes. So our first group B pair is... Nie Huaisang and Ouyang Zizhen?? Ok.

So the last two left are Qin Su and Lan Jingyi, with seniors Bao Shan and Jin Guangshan. Bao Shan and Jin Guangshan do that thing where they let both the juniors sing and then decide between them who'll sing with which one, and the first pair we get are Bao Shan and Lan Jingyi doing 不羁的风( Unruly Wind) by Leslie Cheung, our only Cantonese song of the night (actually, of all auditions, which is unusual). Lan Jingyi flips his ever-loving shit the moment Bao Shan starts singing and he realizes who it is, and not a single person in that theater can blame him. He makes it through the song, though, only to nearly faint when Bao Shan implies she recognizes his voice and knows who he is, which again is a fair and valid reaction. He better get it together, though, because they were two yesses so he's gonna have to figure out how to survive singing like a dozen more songs with a goddess.

Qin Su and Jin Guangshan are the last pair, singing 我只在乎你(I Only Care About You)) by Teresa Teng. They're both fine. Before he lets them decide, Lin Hai points out that if they don't choose each other, that will leave Qin Su with Wen Qing and Jin Guangshan with Su She, so they should weigh their options carefully. They weigh those options, and both say no. So our last two pairs are Qin Su/Wen Qing and Jin Guangshan/Su She!

NOTE: Two days after the episode aired, several women came forward to accuse Jin Guangshan of sexual assault, a couple of them with some pretty damning evidence, so Jin Guangshan and Su She will not be in the rest of the season.
