Chapter 4 Author's Notes

I know I said they alternate between A and B, but for some reason they (almost?) always do Group A auditions, Group A first performance, B auditions, B first performance, and then alternate from there.
Team names: I'm only going to refer to them by the English in-text. Often teams pick their team name based on some pun on their individual names. Explanations of these team names:

S8E2 Livewatch!

Livewatch

This is the livewatch thread for S8E2!

This episode will be the first performances for Group A: Mianmian & Wen Ning, Song Lan & Xue Yang, Xiao Xingchen & A-Qing, and Wei Wuxian & Lan Wangji.

The format: Seniors choose the songs. All duos will do one song, the audience will vote, the top two will do a second song, and the audience will vote again. No word yet on whether or how who wins will impact future episodes.

ETA: Team names:
MM/WN = Seeing is Believing
XXC/AQ = Blind Box
SL/XY = Sending music through the snow (to warm your heart, they claim)
WWX/LWJ = We rise to the challenge

  A-Qing implied strongly on Weibo that that's going to be their team name. Girl will not be able to keep her mouth shut all season, how long will it take her to leak one of their song choices?

  I don't think so at all. Lan Wangji might not be an expressive singer, but I think technically he's the best of the night.

   Yeah but a lot of it is very slow, controlled, stylized movement. I'm not sure he has much experience trying to look natural onstage.

Hmmm... see, this is why I didn't really want A-Qing to go with Xiao Xingchen. She's got WWX's upbeat pop vibes through and through, and Xiao Xingchen's music is so... traditional

  I wasn't gonna say it, but yeah, a little. Like... my grandma loves him. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of his stuff but some of it is just soooooooo sedate.

 He has some more modern-sounding songs! This one maybe isn't a good fit for A-Qing, but she's doing what she can with it and I'm sure they'll have better performances.

 As a HUGE XXC fan, I gotta agree. I think I'm on the other side from most people here, I can't listen to a lot of the type of music A-Qing and Wei Wuxian put out, while I love Xiao Xingchen's mellow vibe, but that's exactly the problem. I'm not saying his style is better than hers, even if I personally prefer it, but I think they're just as mismatched as Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji.

Oooh, voting results.... Mianmian & Wen Ning in first, then Song Lan and Xue Yang, Xiao Xingchen & A-Qing, and then Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, dead last by a bigger margin than we usually see. Yikes. 😬 But let's be real, is anyone surprised?

 I gotta admit, I'm surprised they were behind by THAT much. Both of them sounded good, even if you could have replaced Lan Wangji with a wooden board for all the stage presence he's got.

  Again, they sounded good in a technical sense, but Wei Wuxian was the only one really digging into the song's emotional core. And Lan Wangji just... didn't seem to want to be there. Maybe the audience is just trying to grant his wish.
